Labor Day Weekend: September 5-7

• Kayak or paddleboard the Anclote River. Late summer is one of the best times to explore the mangrove tunnels and salt marshes around the Anclote River mouth. • September 19: 8th Annual Comedy Night

• September 19: Native Plants for Pasco Gardens

What the Fall Season Means for Hudson Beach FL

After Labor Day, the Hudson Beach FL coast undergoes a quiet transformation. Here is what I love about the transition:

• Fewer people, more elbow room. The weekday beaches are empty. Parking is a non-issue. The fishing spots have room to cast. It is the locals' secret season.
• Cooler mornings, perfect afternoons. The oppressive August heat starts to ease. September mornings in the high 70s feel crisp by Gulf coast standards, and the afternoon high settles in the upper 80s. The afternoon thunderstorms become less frequent.
• Sunset shifts earlier. Through late August, the sun sets around 7:55 PM. By the end of September, it is closer to 7:15 PM. Earlier sunsets mean a more relaxed evening timeline for dinners on the water at Sam's Beach Bar or Inn on the Gulf.
• Festival season kicks in. Fall is the busiest festival season on the Nature Coast. The Tarpon Springs Seafood Festival at the Sponge Docks (November 7-8, 2026) is a highlight, and the Friday Night Farmers Markets continue through the season. More events are added as the weather cools.

Paddleboarding & Kayaking Tips for Late Summer

If you have not been out on the water lately, late August through September is some of the best paddleboarding weather of the year:

• Dawn patrol at Strickland Park.

  Launch between 7 and 7:30 AM for glassy water and minimal boat traffic. The dolphins feed near shore in the early morning. Launch from the beach at Robert J. Strickland Memorial Park on Clark Street.

• SunWest Park.

  The spring-fed 70-acre lake offers flat-water paddling in a beautiful setting. Paddleboard rentals are available. Open daily through Labor Day, then shifts to fall weekend hours.

• Werner-Boyce Salt Springs State Park.

  Paddle the salt marsh trails and look for manatees and roseate spoonbills. The park's 4,000 acres of protected coastal wetlands offer miles of paddling routes through mangrove tunnels and open water.
